Our family started farming in Alberta’s Special Areas Grasslands in 1919. Back then, beef was raised on the family farm or you bought it from your neighbour. You knew that it was healthy because you knew what it ate and how it lived, and you trusted the people who raised it. You could feel good about what you were eating. Over time things have changed from farmers finishing their own beef for themselves and their neighbours to buying beef at the local supermarket all the way to purchasing imported beef from all over that world at massive corporate chain stores. People want to get back to the good ol’ days, they want to know how their beef was raised and who it was raised by.

Our cows are born on our farm and live in a herd on our land their whole lives. They live most of the year on pasture and graze the native fescue prairie grasslands that are unique to where our farm is situated, near Hanna, AB. In the wintertime we bring them to a field that is closer to home where they are fed forages, which are a mixture of hay (harvested grass) and greenfeed (harvested oat plants or barley plants). We do not use added hormones (growth implants) and only use antibiotics if an animal needs treatment to save its life. We can guarantee there are no antibiotics in any of the beef we produce.
When it comes time to finish our beef we start adding barley grain into their ration, this technically makes them grass-fed, grain-finished beef. We feed barley because we believe that this grain gives the best flavour and quality to the meat - we pride ourselves on selling heritage beef that is traditionally finished and butchered locally. We strive to have all of our beef grade AAA or better.
Our cattle live the most natural and low stress life that is possible so that we, and our customers, can feel good about what we are eating. We support many other local businesses like our butcher shop, mineral company, other farms and more - so when you buy directly from a farmer, whether that is us or another family, you are doing the same!
Sincerely,
Outstanding Beef
